Instead of giving her more toys I wanted to give my daughter a happy memory. For her 5th birthday, I created a (nearly) 50 meter crazy drinking straw, all over our holiday home. I started building while she was napping on the garden pillows. When she woke up, the straw was hanging in front of her.

It took me a while and when she woke up, it also took her a while to sip from her drink :-) but we had a great time. She especially loved tearing the complete construction down.

Stop buying your kids crap toys. Believe me, memories last longer than any toy. (except Playmobil, you can never go wrong with Playmobil)

I was in Antwerp recently and used Whim to call a cab, it’s a European app that combines all the transport you need in the city, which is pretty handy when it’s your first time in a city.
This cab arrives and at first I didn’t realize what was on the side of the car. I just got in and asked the driver to bring me to a bar in the south of the city.
When we were driving he told me he renamed his car and it’s now called ‘wheels of fortune’.
On one of the wheels he attached a spinner and transformed it into a wheel of fortune.
When your ride is over, the wheels spins and you win a prize. I won 10 euro extra credit, which made the ride extra cheap for me
I asked him what the surprise was, when you hit the question mark, but he said it was a secret and I’ll just have to ride and try again. If all cab drivers are as creative as this guy, I would definitely use more cabs instead of Ubers. Cabdrivers worldwide should put these ‘wheels of fortune’ on their cars.

Part 1: Golf

I carve miniature chocolate people and place them on pralines, so they become little sceneries. I give them as presents to my family (because I hate searching for a good present, and chocolate is always a good idea)
My dad loves golf, so a made him a golf scenery. My brother is a pro snowboarder, so I recreated his latest fall (where he landed head first in the snow) My mother is a history teacher so I made her a series of old statues.

They now live together in their new mansion, including a hamster wheel. I connected the wheel to a dynamo, and when they run in their wheel, their christmas lights light up. (Thanks to my neighbor, who works at ENI, energy provider in Belgium) They got presents that they unwrapped themselves, ate a lovely homemade meal and played in the snow. We are already looking forward to celebrate New Years eve with them. Welcome home, little fellas.
